I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written American historical by Gist. Having toured the Biltmore House more than once, I enjoyed envisioning the rooms and the grounds in the story. Having the story set "below stairs" was unique and interesting. I was fascinated by the description of life as a servant at the turn of the 20th Century. Even though the Vanderbilt's were more progressive in their treatment of their staff than most people, being a servant was a very difficult and labor intensive job.I
