Commentary To Books Reheated Cabbage

Hilarious, shocking and hugely entertaining, Reheated Cabbage has all the classic Irvine Welsh ingredients. In these pages you can enjoy Christmas dinner with Begbie, and see how warmly Franco greets his sister's boyfriend and the news of their engagement. You will discover, in 'The Rosewell Incident', how aliens addicted to Embassy Regal have Midlothian under surveillance, and plan to install the local casuals as the new governors of Planet Earth. You will not be surprised to read that a televised Hibs vs. Hearts game might matter more to one character than the life of his wife, or that two guys fighting over a beautiful girl might agree -- on reflection, and after a few pills and many pints of lager -- that their friendship is actually more important. And you will be delighted to welcome back 'Juice' Terry Lawson, and to watch what happens when he meets his old nemesis, retired schoolmaster Albert Black, under the strobe-lights of a Miami Beach nightclub.

Appraise Regarding Books Reheated Cabbage
It sometimes happens that story collections turn out to be a bit lumpy in the sense that the pieces not always complement each other smoothly. This is one of those. However, each story on its own is great, especially the first what a masterpiece! I have never laughed so much about such a tragic event. Its all in how you tell it

This book was great! I've become a huge fan of Welsh and I really enjoyed these new/old stories involving various characters in his universe. The novella at the end, I am Miami, is like a sequel to both Porno and Glue. Juice Terry is one of Welsh's best characters and I found this new adventure of his to be very entertaining!

A hodgepodge of B-sides from a writer used to walking the knife's edge of brilliance and blunder. Here he fails spectacularly. It's all mere filler, or worse, like some crude bootleg of an artist justiably renowned for genius. Poor pacing, casual and gratuitous sex, drugs and violence; a flimsy effort. The worst offenders are yawn-inducing gutter drips that just don't land... Indeed, Welsh ruefully calls this cash grab "Reheated Cabbage". Aye, we were warned...

"Reheated Cabbage" collects a handful of short stories that Welsh has published elsewhere over the past few years, and like any such anthology there is variation in the quality and cohesion of the book as a whole. There are a couple of throwaway stories and a really silly (yet still kind of amusing) story involving aliens. But overall this is definitely a collection to read because the last three stories are really quite excellent. Especially the final story, "I am Miami," which might be one of

As a huge fan of Irvine Welsh, I jumped at the opportunity to snag this collection of short stories when I saw it the local thrift store for a few bucks. I didn't expect it to rival any of his best works, but figured I can never have too many Welsh books in my library. I was right, these stories maybe aren't his best, but it's classic Welsh, through and through. There's the humorous, colloquial banter in Scots dialect (which by now I am fully versed in), there's the excess of booze and drugs and

Bukowski anyone? I was given this by my housemate and though I really enjoyed some of the stories that came later in the book, the one about aliens was just drivel (you get the feeling Welsh thought of that one when he was fourteen and bored out of his skull and just polished it up for the current book), and I ended up feeling really sorry for the author because apparently everyone he knows is an utter self-centered asshole at heart. I also got the feeling he was just trying a bit too hard.
