Ilustration Concering Books Preach My Gospel: A Guide To Missionary Service
(February 2015)We used the Preach My Gospel manual for our family scripture study over the last several months. While the early chapters were beneficial, the second half of the book applied much more specifically to missionaries, and we moved through it very quickly. I found it much more meaningful using it for personal study the first time I read it, as it was written to be studied intently by a mature reader. Helping children learn from it is more difficult. Still, I think it was valuable to have our family familiarize ourselves with what the missionaries of the church study and teach.

I read this several years ago for my personal scripture study, reading all the scriptures and doing the suggested writing activities as I went through the manual. I tried to approach it as if I were a new investigator, wondering exactly what I would think and feel if I were hearing the principles of the gospel for the first time. It was a really uplifting experience. This is truly an inspired resource, and it's not just for missionaries!

My dad said if I memorize a page, recite it to him, memorize a page recite it to him, etc., then he'll pay me $30. He also said that if I memorized the whole entire book page by page, he'll pay for my college scholarship. But since I've asked him so many times, he can see that I actually have the power to do it and he's now contemplating whether to keep up on that deal. :)It's the best text out there on how to do effective missionary work. That is, except for the scriptures themselves--a point too often forgotten.Having helped write this manual, I was trained to look for imperfections. But even being a trained cynic, I am still excited about this manual and how it represents an approach to missionary work that more closely tracks the course set out in the scriptures.A great book.
Jesus said, "if you love me keep my commandments". This book lays all the foundational principles of Jesus Gospel found in the scriptures. What a good way to become more like him. Read it and follow it, regardless if your are a missionary or not. Regardless if you are a member of our faith or not. Take the good in all things and make yourself better.
Great book. Clear, organized. A must for any latter-day Saint who wants to understand the gospel as well as share it more effectively. If one applies the principles, it can change his or her life.
So glad I read this book! My patriarchal blessing tells me that I will be the mother of missionaries... I figured I better get a better grip on what they will be doing in the field :) Preach My Gospel inspired me in three ways: One, It strengthened my testimony... I love the simple and precious truths of the Gospel. It's good to go over the basics once in a while. Two, it's a great tool for my calling as primary president... so many practical ideas for teaching & reaching my cute kiddos.
Dave and I used this for our personal study this year. We read through the chapter that has all of the missionary discussions. It was a good review of the reasons for missionary work and the things that missionaries are expected to know. Hopefully this will be useful in becoming better at sharing the gospel with our families, our friends, our neighbors, and people in our church congregation.
Use for personal scripture study. Currently studying chapter 6: developing Christlike attributes. Using it as the skeleton for Fhe each line in the chapter can have a whole lesson built on it. So great!!!
